Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know whether I need hearing aids?

Difficulty following conversations, frequent repetition or an increasing television volume can be reasons to have your hearing checked. An Audiological Assessment helps identify the type and degree of hearing loss and whether hearing aids, another option or further medical review should be considered.

What happens at a hearing-aid consultation?

We discuss your hearing results and the situations you want to improve, such as group conversations, meetings, television or phone calls. Your Audiologist explains suitable styles, technology levels and practical costs, so you can make an informed choice.

How do Prescription Hearing Aids help?

They provide amplification tailored to your hearing profile. Depending on the model, microphones and sound processing can also support speech listening in noise. Hearing aids do not restore normal hearing, and your results depend on your hearing, fitting, use and listening environments.

What do AI hearing aids do?

Some hearing aids use AI-based processing trained to recognise sound patterns and support speech listening. The approach and available features vary between models. Your Audiologist can explain which differences are relevant to your daily life rather than choosing from an AI label alone.

Which hearing-aid brand is best?

There is no single best brand for everyone. We compare appropriate options from established manufacturers, including Oticon, Phonak and Starkey, against your hearing, comfort, handling needs and phone compatibility. The quality of the fitting and follow-up also matters.

Do I need one hearing aid or two?

When both ears have hearing loss that can benefit from amplification, two hearing aids are often recommended to support listening with both ears. If hearing differs between ears, the recommendation may be different. Your Audiologist will explain suitable options after assessing each ear.

Can I choose small or discreet hearing aids?

Possibly. Small in-ear and receiver-in-canal styles offer different combinations of size, power, controls and connectivity. Your ear anatomy and hearing needs determine which styles are suitable; a device described as invisible may still be visible in some ears.

Will hearing aids connect to my phone?

Many models connect to compatible smartphones for streaming or app controls, and some support hands-free calls. Bring your phone so we can check the exact model and operating system before you choose your hearing aids.

Are rechargeable hearing aids right for me?

Rechargeable options can make the daily routine easier by reducing the need to handle small batteries. Consider your charging habits, travel and handling needs. Battery life varies with the model, battery age, streaming and other use.

My hearing aids are not clear enough. Do I need an upgrade?

Start with a review of your hearing, ear health, fit, settings and device function. Fine-tuning, maintenance, repairs or a listening accessory may help. An upgrade is worth considering when newer technology addresses a need your current hearing aids cannot meet.

What does a remote microphone do?

A compatible remote microphone picks up a speaker's voice closer to its source and sends it to the hearing aids. It can be useful when distance or background noise makes listening difficult. Your Audiologist can discuss suitable accessories and situations for use.

Why does the hearing-aid fitting matter?

The same hearing aid can perform differently in different ears. Programming, physical fit and verification help match the output to your hearing needs. At Puretone, Real-Ear Measurement is part of checking the fitting, followed by adjustments based on your experience.

What determines the cost of hearing aids?

Costs depend on the devices, technology level and included services. Ask for a clear explanation of the recommendation, fitting and follow-up, along with any applicable funding or payment options. Coverage and eligibility depend on the program or insurer; our team can help you understand the next steps.

Can I bring a family member?

Yes. Someone familiar with your everyday conversations can help explain the situations that are difficult and take part in discussing your options. If you already wear hearing aids, bring them and your phone to the appointment.

Is Oticon Reveal right for me?

Oticon Reveal is one option to discuss if you are comparing AI and rechargeable Prescription Hearing Aids. The decision should consider your hearing results, difficult listening situations, preferred style, phone compatibility and budget. Bring your current hearing aids and phone to a consultation so you can compare suitable options and ask about fitting, follow-up and trial terms.
